Beach, Amy
Amy Beach was one of the first important women composers in America. She was known not only as a virtuoso pianist, making her debut with the Boston Symphony Orchestra at age sixteen, but she was also the first American woman to compose successfully in large forms. By the end of her life she had written about three hundred compositions in all genres, and was dubbed, "Dean of American Women Composers."
